MAYURESHWARA GANESH

                              श्री मयूरेश्वर विघ्नेश्वराय नमः

Lord Ganesh as Mayureshwar Ganesh is famous as the Lord of Moregaon and finds a very important reference as one of the ashtavinayak shrines and finds a important place in the exile of the Pandavas.

The legend of Moregaon is that Sri Ganesh, Sindhoorasur  who was born out of brahma created tremendous of disturbance for devas and also for Brahma,Vishnu and Maheshwara,The demon was so powerful that he  engulfed Brahma,Vishnu and Maheshwar in his arms along with Mahasaraswati,Mahalakshmi and Mahakali and none of them could save themselves from his grip.

At that time Goddess Parvati ordered Sri Ganesh to kill Sindhurasur.Sri Ganesh just butchered sindhurasur with his tusk and all the devas were once and for all were relieved of the anxieties created by sindhurasur.

The original of metal here was created by Sri Brahma and the copper covering over the divine image was created by Pandavas.Lord Ganesha appeared before Pandavas and assured them that they will have win kauravas in the mahabharat war as they have visited the divine kshetra of moregaon where Lord Ganesh is worshipped riding a peacock here,so therefore he is named as Lord Mayureshwar.

Moregaon is situated at a distance of 64 kms from Pune and comes under Poona district
